Welcome to my Vis Com Blog.

Advertisements. Today I looked at different types of advertisements, what draws people in and how advertisements do that. There are 3 main categories that pigeonhole people into doing what the advert is showing: Target audience – Suitability. (age, career, household income, race, disability) Channel. (Social media, TV, Print, Billboards – outdoor media) Product. (Service, Objects,…

Slogans As a group we had to come up with a slogan for LV. Four of us had to come up with 5 different slogans for the different insurances on LV (home, pet, life, travel, car) using these guidelines: Recall the brand name, include a key benefit, differenciate the brand, impart positive feelings towards the…

Looking at incorporating animation with the advertisement that we’re making and with the slogan that we created as well. I was absent for this session but this is what the rest of the team came up with for the animation.

16th December 2019.

The 5 minute activity today was to visit Design Week, Creative Review, Creative Bloq or It’s Nice That and identify one design project that inspires you and add it to my blog. I liked the little article called “What’s the big idea?” it gives advice on how to actually come up with an idea for an ad. It says “A Technique For Producing Ideas: fill your head with as much as you can about the problem, then think about something else.”

Today we are designing and creating a mascot for the LV company. We’ve decided to go with a cute cartoon dog we think that it will attract people in a positive way. Animals are very likeable things and according to a study in 2016, 40% of households have pets so this mascot will hopefully attract a large audience. We needed to come up with a design that is simple, easy to animate, appealing to young demographic and social media. We also needed to incorporate the green heart that LV already has to keep their original theme. We have named the dog ‘Chance’. We think that this is a really clever name as we can create and come up with loads of smart punny slogans and phrases such as ‘Take a chance with LV’, ‘Chancing queen’, ‘The best thing you can give someone is a chance’ and ‘Chance will be a fine thing’.

We have also decided to design and create a little toy to advertise the company as well. It’s a design of chance but in teddy form for people who may have referred a friend to the company, people who have switched from another company, or as a little gift for people who are new and sign up with the company. We’re yet to decide who the teddies will be for but it could be all three of those options.

6th January 2020.

We have all decided on a final design for the LV= mascot dog, it was he design Lauren had created. Also we have come up with little scenes for the dog to be in for the different insurances such as:

  • Home insurance = Dog in kennel.
  • Travel = Dog on lead and skateboard.
  • Car = Dog’s head out the car window.
  • Pet = Dog’s little teddies.
  • Life = Dog family photo.
Chances Kennel.

I created this for chances kennel. I wanted the roof to look similar to the LV= ‘V’ but upside down of course. Also I wanted to incorporate the LV heart somewhere as well and I tried not to include any harsh lines to make it look more lighthearted.

Redesigned Chances kennel.

I wanted to redesign the kennel for the animation dog because I thought that the first one I did wasn’t good enough. I thought the colour was off, it was too blocky and too 2 dimensional. I wanted to add some shading to the image to give it more of a 3 dimensional animated look and corrected the colour a bit more. I managed to do this because the actual dog that we had created was finished and I took little things from the dogs design to put onto the kennel like the green colour and the blue shading. I am a lot more pleased with this one than the previous on although I could still be improved to make it look more cartoony but I’m still practicing in illustrator and photoshop. I still might go back and edit it again cause I stick think it looks quite solid and blocky and I want it to look more cartoony and relaxed.
